Meet The Board
The Nate Wasserman Camp Fund is guided by a passionate board of directors who believe deeply in the power of summer camp to shape young lives.
Each board member brings unique experience, perspective, and leadership, but they all share a common goal: to remove financial barriers and ensure more kids can experience the confidence, connection, and growth that camp provides.

David Mizock
Board Member c. 2017
David credits much of who he is today to the experiences he had at camp. Beginning as a camper all the way back in 2004, to eventually being the head counselor in his final year, David has truly embodied what it means to have camp run through his veins. Traits like teamwork, leadership, and, most importantly, sportsmanship are words he uses to describe himself today. Nothing speaks louder than the relationships he has created and carried with him in his post-camp years, including traveling the world to see other alumni whom he has met in locations like England, Italy, and the Netherlands, just to name a few.David helps out wherever he can with the board, but his primary focus is the 4.5-mile ‘Doc’s Run’ event that takes place in early August. This run has had participants from all over the world for decades and has only recently (2022) been turned into a fundraising event for the NWCF, attracting over 150 participants and raising over $25,000 for charity!

Johnny Schatz
Board Member c. 2020
Johnny loves camp and all that it represents. The way he relates to people in life in all of his social interaction draws from skills honed at camp. Having grown up in downtown Chicago, he used to yearn for the annual escape to the timber-scented Northwoods. He draws on fond memories of inter-camp competitions, cabin hangs, socials (and even an “Olympics”) and is excited to see the rich traditions of camp carried out when his young daughters are ready to have the time of their lives enjoying new experiences and making new friends in the Mess Hall, at a bonfire, or on courts, fields and at the waterfront.
As a member of the board, Johnny is a true “utility guy” with no notable skills who helps out in areas of greatest need which primarily includes but is not limited to fundraising and helping grow the cause brick by brick.
